Background
A leading poultry processing facility in the West Midlands faced persistent odour challenges arising from its production processes. High volumes of odour-laden air were generated during daily operations, containing a complex mix of organic and sulfurous compounds characteristic of poultry manufacturing.
Challenge
As the site is located close to neighbouring businesses and residential areas, ensuring high-efficiency air filtration was critical to maintaining environmental compliance, positive community relations and safeguard the company’s reputation. The client required a proven, reliable solution capable of treating large airflow volumes without disrupting production.
Solution
To address the high volume of air requiring treatment, a high-flow activated carbon odour control system was commissioned. The system was engineered to handle an impressive flow rate of 40,000 m³/h, ensuring that even during peak production, all air was effectively captured and treated.
The filter was charged with FiltraPure® SA70, a high-performance pelletised activated carbon. This activated carbon is engineered for superior adsorption capacity, particularly targeting the complex organic compounds including short chain sulfurous compounds typically associated with poultry manufacturing odours.
Results
The implementation of the FiltraPure® SA70 system provided an immediate and sustained improvement in air quality.
- Total Odour Neutralisation: The activated carbon filter successfully removed all detectable odour emissions.
- Operational Reliability: The high-flow design allowed the facility to operate at full capacity without compromising the effectiveness of the abatement system.
- Environmental Compliance: The site continues to meet all stringent local authority air quality standards
Puragen’s activated carbon solutions improve product quality and enhance process efficiency across a wide range of food and beverage applications. By combining bespoke engineering with high-grade carbon media, this project demonstrates that even large-scale industrial odours can be managed effectively, protecting both the environment and the reputation of the business.
