Activated Carbon in Benzene Tank Venting

The use of activated carbon to filter benzene and H2S.

We’ve been involved in an interesting project recently, working on a ‘tank venting’ project at a chemical facility in the UK.  The customer installed five of their mobile EZ Clean Storage Tanks on the site, each with a capacity of 70,000 litres, for handling a process stream containing benzene.

Puragen supplied four of Clean-Flo® AT1 gas phase carbon drums, the smallest units from our VOCSorber® mobile carbon filter range, for treating any off-gases vented from the five large tanks.  The four AT1 drums, set up in two pairs in a lead/lag configuration, were filled with carbons selected to remove any traces of benzene or other gas phase contaminants, including hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and were additionally fitted with flame arrestors as a final safety measure.

We look forward to collaborating on further gas/liquid treatment projects in the future.
