Background
A new pet food production facility was under construction, requiring an efficient air treatment and deodorisation system to manage process emissions as part of the overall plant design.
The solution needed to treat 15,000 m³/h of process air, ensuring odour-free operation while maintaining cost efficiency and operational simplicity.
Challenge
The project required the design of an effective odour control system for a newly constructed facility, while also ensuring that the filtration equipment was integrated into the engineering drawings at an early stage to allow seamless installation and operation.
Key objectives:
- Demonstrate the effectiveness of activated carbon media technology
- Deliver a low-maintenance, low-operational-cost solution
- Ensure odour compliance without continuous air measurement systems
As this was a new installation, the customer required proof of concept before committing to full-scale implementation.
Solution
From the earliest stage of the project, Puragen worked directly with the end user to define technical specifications and integrate an activated carbon solution through a structured and collaborative partnership approach. This early technical engagement ensured that the proposed system aligned precisely with process requirements and long-term operational objectives.
Direct discussions with the customer enabled the activated carbon filtration solution to be incorporated into the plant drawings and engineering plans at an early stage. By embedding the solution into the design phase, Puragen helped secure seamless installation, efficient space utilisation, and smooth system integration.
As part of the validation process, Puragen supplied CleanFlo®AT1 drum units for on-site pilot trials, allowing the customer to evaluate the performance of the activated carbon media under real operating conditions. This hands-on assessment confirmed the technology’s effectiveness and provided the confidence required to move forward with full-scale implementation.
Following successful proof of concept, Puragen worked closely with a local installation partner to finalise the pipework design and ensure full system integration. The project culminated in the delivery and commissioning of the CleanFlo® H20V mobile filter, seamlessly incorporated into the plant’s ventilation infrastructure to provide reliable and efficient odour control.
The VOCSorber® HF20V mobile filter offers a flexible, high-performance solution for air and gas purification, combining low pressure drop with maximum operational efficiency. Designed for both odour management and continuous industrial VOC abatement, the system is modular and scalable to suit site-specific process requirements, with flow capacities of up to 60,000 Nm³/h.
Results
Despite the absence of continuous air measurement, the facility reports no detectable odour emissions, confirming system effectiveness and carbon efficiency.
- 15,000 m³/h air treatment capacity successfully implemented
- No odour detected since commissioning
- No requirement for continuous air monitoring
- Low operating and maintenance costs: activated carbon media replaced only once per year
- Strong customer satisfaction and long-term performance
This project highlights Puragen’s capability to partner with OEMs and end users from initial concept through to commissioning, delivering high-performance activated carbon solutions that ensure reliable, cost-efficient deodorisation solutions.
