Landfill gas (LFG) engine protection in small footprint compounds
The Problem
The site was a landfill gas-to-electricity site, with a small footprint compound. Despite existing activated carbon mobile filters, the site continued to experience issues with hydrogen sulfide and siloxanes plus other VOCs (volatile organic compounds), along with rising activated carbon costs.
The Objective
Our outline task was to reduce the cost of the existing activated carbon supply, whilst ensuring the effective removal of hydrogen sulfide and siloxanes. In addition, our solution needed to avoid fixed filter servicing and on-site carbon handling, remove the need for working at height and enable sustainable waste management.
The Solution
Due to limited site space, two VOCSorber® 2-SX mobile filters were installed in series, to remove VOCs and hydrogen sulfide respectively. VOCSorber® gas phase mobile filters were the natural choice, perfect for this application and pre-filled with our high quality FiltraCarb® activated carbon and delivered to customer sites ready for connection. We also engineered and supplied all necessary pipework and connections, to facilitate the connection of the units. When the carbon in the filters is spent, we will exchange each one with a new filter filled with fresh activated carbon, with the spent media being sent to our award-winning thermal reactivation facility for safe and economic recycling.
