5th June is designated as World Environment Day 2023 (WED). This United Nations event is celebrating its 50th anniversary, with a different theme and host country each year. This year’s WED is hosted by the Ivory Coast with support from the Netherlands. Previous events have focused on air pollution and biodiversity, for example, whereas in 2023 the focus is on solutions to plastic pollution, under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.
Many companies and organisations are holding events today linked to WED. For example, the UK Institute of Water (IoW), of which Puragen is a member, is holding an online event today on the subject of plastic pollution – see link below.
Protecting the environment is fundamental to our business. Not only are activated carbons used for a wide variety of environmental purification applications – cleaning up air emissions and purifying water in multiple sectors – we also recycle the spent carbon wherever possible, via a process called thermal reactivation. This reactivation process represents a carbon footprint saving in excess of 90% versus the use of new (virgin) carbon, as well as reducing the consumption of the world’s natural resources.
