R&D Colorimeter

Sweetener and syrup decolourisation with activated carbon from Puragen, being evaluated with new colorimeter.

Our in-house R&D capability continues to go from strength to strength. Based at the Puragen Immingham facility in Lincolnshire, the latest addition to our portfolio of high-tech kit is a Shimadzu UV-1280 Spectrophotometer.  This state-of-the-art colourimeter will allow us to evaluate the performance of our Filtracarb® activated carbons in various food-grade decolourisation processes, particularly in the area of sweetener and syrup purification.

The machine, pictured here in our new R&D laboratory, is being operated by R&D Chemist Camila Tyler, an experienced industrial/analytical chemist who has been part of the Puragen Immingham team since 2017. She is a specialist in the evaluation of the properties and performance of activated carbons.

Speaking about this latest investment, Puragen’s R&D Manager Pat Riley commented, “Armed with this new piece of kit, and in addition to our existing capability to reactivate food-grade spent carbons, we look forward to working with our food industry customers to help them solve their most challenging purification applications”.
