As the two-week COP26 UN Climate Change Conference comes to a close later today it is clear that, whatever the outcome of the ongoing discussions and negotiations, much more needs to be done to protect the environment.
Here in England, the Westminster Government has this week published its long-awaited Environment Act 2021. The Bill, which has been nearly three years in the making, achieved Royal Assent on Tuesday and provides the Government with the powers to set new binding targets relating to water and air quality, waste reduction and biodiversity.
DEFRA‘s Environment Minster Lord Goldsmith, the Bill’s sponsoring department, was quoted as saying that it is “more than just a credible step in the right direction”, but “an ambitious answer to the scale of the task”.
The activated carbon industry, and the team here at Puragen in particular, stands ready to work with all related sectors – water utilities, chemicals producers, waste processors, renewable energy generators, plus many others – to reduce the environmental impact of their operations and to make a valuable contribution towards the universal goal of a more sustainable future.
