It was ‘back to school’ for one member of our team recently, when Nick Garrett visited Gladstone Primary School in Cardiff to explain to Year 4 students how granular activated carbon (GAC) helps to purify drinking water.

The Year 4 children had already visited a local Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water drinking water treatment facility, so this was an opportunity for Nick to explain one of the important steps in the purification process, the removal of unwanted contaminants from the water that may cause unwanted taste and odour issues.

The children were fascinated by the experiment performed by Nick in front of the class, pouring coloured water through a filter funnel containing granular activated carbon (GAC), which removed the colour completely, demonstrating the ‘purifying power’ of activated carbon.

We hope the Year 4 students at Gladstone Primary School enjoyed the visit by Puragen.  We would like to thank the teaching staff at the school for organising this visit and supplying the photos (we have deliberately blurred the children’s faces).
