LFG VOCSorber Case Study

See how Puragen’s VOCSorber filters VOCs from landfill gas, improving air quality and compliance.

We recently installed two of our flagship VOCSorber® 30 units at a large landfill gas (LFG) site in northern England.

The mobile filters are filled with our FiltraCarb® activated carbon, to remove siloxanes and other VOCs from the LFG stream, protecting the six downstream combined heat and power (CHP) engines, reducing maintenance downtime and increasing the output of renewable electricity.

We were successful in winning this business thanks mainly to the superior engineering and design of our mobile carbon filters.  In this application, pressure drop across the filter(s) is critical, and our VOCSorber® units have a pressure drop less than half that of the competitor’s filters that we replaced.  Crucially, this means that the two VOCSorber® units have been installed in a lead-lag arrangement (i.e. in series), rather than in parallel.  This significantly increases the lifetime of the filters, reducing the changeout frequency and cost.

What’s more, when each filter is spent and requires exchange, the used carbon can be recycled via thermal reactivation at our award-winning REACT-Sys® facility in Immingham, NE Lincs, so doesn’t need to be landfilled or sent overseas for processing.

For more information about our range of Clean-Flo® mobile carbon filters, which includes liquid-phase AquaSorber® units (useful for removing PFAS from drinking water, for example) as well as these gas-phase VOCSorber® designs, please the relevant pages on our website, or come and meet our team at the World Biogas Expo at the NEC in July.
