It’s great to start the new year with a good news story.
Just weeks after receiving first aid training at the Puragen Immingham facility, plant operator Brad Scrimshaw was able to put his new-found skills into practice, when he came to the assistance of a man who had collapsed and lost consciousness in a park in Cleethorpes.
Brad made use of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and mouth-to-mouth techniques, as well as applying three shocks from a nearby public defibrillator unit.
The emergency services arrived and took over the life-saving actions, before taking the man to hospital, where he is understood to have made a full recovery.
Everyone at Puragen is very proud of Brad and what he achieved that day, thinking and acting calmly in an incredibly difficult and stressful situation. It goes to show how important first aid training is, as well as the vital role that publicly available defibrillators can play in these life-or-death situations.
