Introducing the Clean-Flo® HF20V VOCSorber® carbon filter.
In recent years, there has been a lot more focus on environmental issues. For example, here in the UK, the government recently introduced the Clean Air Strategy, which sets out a roadmap for the purification of various contaminants from the air, for example ammonia and VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
Here at Puragen, in collaboration with our sister company Puragen, we’re doing our bit for environmental purification and we are delighted to introduce our latest flagship filter, the Clean-Flo® HF20V VOCSorber®. Standing at 8m tall, it is our largest VOCSorber® yet and is manufactured in-house by our engineering subsidiary Puragen Icon.
Why is it called HF20V?
- ‘HF’ stands for ‘High Flow’. It is designed specifically to cope with large volumes of gas passing through it. Unlike a traditional ‘deep bed’ carbon filter which is filled bottom to top with carbon, the interior of this HF unit is designed to cope with a much higher flow of gas, typically up to 40,000 m3/h.
- It is a 20m3 vessel containing about 10 MT of our Filtracarb® activated carbon.
- The ‘V’ is for ‘vertical’. Traditionally, up to this point, our High Flow filters have been horizontal units, based on 20’ or 30’ containers. This is our first vertical unit and designed for situations where there is a limited footprint space at the customer’s site.
Typical applications would be any industry where you have a high volume of gas with a relatively low concentration of pollutants that need to be removed via purification. So, that could be a waste transfer station, for example, or chemical, pharmaceutical or petrochemical industries where you require abatement of VOCs or odour control. It could also be used in food manufacturing – either human food or pet food – and we also see applications in the coatings and paint industries, or any manufacturing sector where they make extensive use of solvents, resins, glues or other volatile chemicals. There may even be applications in the agricultural sector, for ammonia (NH3) removal.
In common with all of our large vessels, it is delivered on a dedicated tipping trailer to the customer’s site, and connected via a convenient plus & play system. The vessel is unique on the market in that it is equipped with three 800mm inlet/outlet ports, allowing the customer to choose the most suitable and convenient arrangement for their process stream.
When the vessel is spent and activated carbon needs to be changed, we will simply bring along a replacement unit and take the old one away. We take the spent activated carbon back to one of our Service Centres where it is removed from the filter and taken to our thermal reactivation centre in Immingham, where it is recycled to be used again and again.
