Soil remediation is sometimes accomplished using a process known as “pump and treat,” in which contaminated ground water is removed and purified using activated carbon. The soil can also be extracted and filtered to remove various contaminants. Then both the soil and purified water are put back into place. Soil remediation can also involve solidification where activated carbon is added to the soil to reduce the contaminant’s mobility.
